You have run through your checklist of final questions and are at the point of no return. What should you expect to be told, or recieve at this final stage to the kitchen design and purchase process? It is important to understand that your trust in the kitchen company should not get in the way of expecting good business practice. I have provided a checklist and indication of what to expect from a reasonably well organised kitchen company. If you have a quote it will be usefull to run through my list to see if everything is included that needs to be.
All the kitchen furniture is listed with sizes, drawers or special depth, height and width units agreed,Lump sum or individual prices as agreed with yourself are indicated. Door style and finishes aswell as carcase specification and finishes should be indicated. Freestanding pieces should be specified and include with a price if different. Decorative end panel type and finish should be indicated. Any leg details or carcase alterations should be indicated. Carcase frame detail if bespoke should be indicated aswell as door make up if painted ie poplar and mdf.
Handles are agreed with quantities and price.
Cornice and lightrail are listed in lengths or total length with material type and price ie laminate, veneer, or solid wood.
Worktops are listed with type and finish aswell as with total length at least indicated. Cut outs for sinks, taps etc in solid tops, corner finishes such as curved details, and front edge details should be indicated. Price should be a lump sum if agreed or individual piece prices.
Any special features ie overmantles etc should be detailed and priced.
Appliances should be individually detailed and priced stating finish and make.
Sinks and taps should be individually detailed and priced.
Splashbacks and wall finishes if panelled are detailed and priced per metre or piece price
Wall tiles if included are shown as total in metres with sq metre price indicated
Floor tiles or alternative if included are shown as total in metres with sq metre price indicated
Light fittings are shown with type and price,
A fitting specification showing quantities of kitchen units, end panels and leg details etc aswell as separate details for all items is good, with a lump price or individually priced, as agreed with your supplier. Cornice and lightrail should be indicated . Worktops if included with the fit should indicate cut outs for appliances, corner joints and end details if fabricated on site. Upstands should be specified if included.
Electrics if included should indicate whether an rcd is required, and include all items whether switches , fused spurs, sockets, cooker points etc . All items should be priced and specified indicating that the hardware is included. If there is a first and second fix it is useful to have seperate pricing for each. Certification will need to be provided at the end.
Plumbing if included should indicate what items are included individually with prices aswell as hard ware. If the first and second fix is included then a seperate price is useful. If there is gas fitting then a corgi registered plumber is required.
Floor tiling if included should state how many sq metres and what type of adhesive and grout to show it is correct for timber or solid floors.
Vinyl flooring or alternatives should indicate sq metres or box quantity and type of fixing and adhesives quantity.
Plastering if included should state whether skimming , board and skim, or base and topcoat.
Extra joinery if required such as thresholds or door reduction for tiling should be priced and specified.
