Step 16. Kitchen Door Style Choices

I have provided a list of some of the most popular kitchen door styles and companies, with help and advice about their wear characteristics and durability. I have worked with many kitchen door and kitchen furniture companies over the years. This selection is some of the more popular companies and ranges from home and abroad.

Lay on or front-faced

This is the most popular kitchen door type, and is available in hundreds of finishes and styles . I have provided links to the more popular choices, and also the more outragious to explore.

Bespoke

In-frame bespoke doors, again are available in the finishes indicated in step 11 and also in many door styles. Again I have provided links to some of my favourite styles ( these are examples of standard bespoke ranges not fully handbuilt ) My options with fully bespoke handbuilt kitchen doors are infinate and can be viewed in my portfolio images section accessed above.

Recessed handle or handleless

Modern kitchens look very streamlined and uncluttered, with no handles and a recessed carcase top, to allow the door to be opened. Alternatively a recessed style handle to the top of the door in stainless steel etc achieves the same look. This look is probably less practical than a bar handle, but is stylish enough to win favour with my more cutting-edge kitchen schemes. Other options, are profiled mdf or wood door tops to allow the fingers to reach behind the cupboard door.

Acrylic

Parapan use solid 18mm acrylic and provide lots of colours and handle- less door options. Acrylic is softer than Laquered mdf so I would be careful to check with manufacturers guidelines for active usage. It can be re-polished though if lightly scratched, apparently.

Curved options

Curved kitchen door options are quite limited with ready-made options and to-order lay-on style kitchens. I am quite often limited to a 300mm or 400mm curved full height door, so it can be limiting, with odd shaped rooms. Having said that, it is very popular as a style statement, and looks good as a framed door or plain flat veneer. Parapan and bespoke companies do offer more size options and colour choices.

Angled options

Still a very popular kitchen furniture design statement, and much cheaper than curved corners. It is also more practical for limited space around door areas etc.
